Statement from the Black Rock ‘5’
When we looked at the tide tables back in January it was apparent there was only one date (in early May) when we could stage the 2021 Black Rock ‘5’, and under normal circumstances we would be preparing to open race entries this weekend.
Like everyone else, we’ve been ever hopeful that things would improve and the pandemic would be behind us by now but it’s clear that the route out of lockdown conditions won’t have changed enough in time for us to go ahead with our planned race date.
The health and safety of our community of runners, helpers and the crowd that we bring to Kinghorn’s streets for this one special night a year is paramount to us and I hope you can appreciate why we’ve made this difficult decision. There is nobody more disappointed by not having a race this year than me.
We remain committed to staging the event when it is safe to do so but we're aware that many events are re-scheduling to hopefully take place later in the year. We're not going to add to the fixture congestion that this may bring by moving the race later in 2021, and hope to instead return to a normal race date in May or June 2022.
We usually support local charities and groups each year from the proceeds of the entry money, and we remain committed to continuing as much of that support as we can in 2021 by using our contingency fund.
We wish everyone well with training for the events you are supporting throughout this rest of the year.
We hope to see you for a paddle round the rock and a pint in 2022.
